Marijuana Control, Legalization and Revenue Act Secures Money to Make 2014 a Reality

SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/01/14 -- Proponents of the Marijuana Control, Legalization and Revenue Act (MCLR), the only remaining initiative working to legalize marijuana on the California November 2014 ballot, have secured the funding needed to ensure legalization in 2014. The proponents have announced that one of California's over 100 billionaires has come forward to sponsor the Initiative! $10 million has been committed to legalization in 2014.
"This is amazing news. We have been working extremely hard to ensure California voters have the ability to vote on this issue in 2014, and the polls prove Californians want legalization now," said Proponent Dave Hodges. "We needed a miracle, and it has come!"
The Marijuana, Control, Legalization and Revenue Act received funding on April 1st for signature gathering to get the initiative on the 2014 ballot.

"Our savior is not a marijuana user; he is someone who understands the problems with the war on marijuana and wants California to move forward on this issue," said Proponent John Lee. "The phones have been ringing non-stop from other funders wanting to add their support."
According to Attorney General Kamala Harris, MCLR will "reduce costs potentially exceeding one hundred million dollars ($100,000,000) annually to state and local governments" related to enforcing certain marijuana-related offenses, handling the related criminal cases in the court system, and incarcerating marijuana offenders. Harris also reported MCLR will add "a few hundred million dollars annually" from additional tax revenues.
MCLR stands to:
  • Create thousands of new jobs
  • Permit the adult use of marijuana with safeguards to stop the black market & protect children
  • Reduce costs exceeding $100 million annually to state and local governments
  • Generate hundreds of millions of dollars in additional tax revenues
  • Strengthen existing medical cannabis laws
MCLR was created to accomplish what the California legislature and previous initiatives have been unable to achieve: a fair, transparent set of enforceable guidelines that address the concerns of citizens, communities, local law enforcement, the courts and federal authorities.
For the past two years Americans for Policy Reform (AFPR), the group behind MCLR, has been working with thousands of Californians on a grassroots, "open source" document to legalize Marijuana for medical, industrial and adult social use. Through its open, inclusive process, MCLR has the support of dozens of attorneys and thousands of marijuana activists. It creates a comprehensive seed-to-sale regulatory system based on the needs of the California community, and the US Department of Justice guidelines. MCLR provides equally for supporters of marijuana and those who are still concerned about the effects of legalization.
