Weed - New York Legalizes Marijuana!

New York will become America’s third legal weed state, as Governor Cuomo will use an Executive Order to fully legalize the production, sale, and consumption of cannabis in New York.
Reports surfaced late last night that Governor Cuomo is expected to make the stunning announcement on April 20 at 7:10 PM Eastern Time. In addition to legalization, all New Yorkers with minor marijuana possession charges (under an ounce) will have their records wiped clean.
Unfortunately, the law will not come into effect until January 1, 2015, which means arrests can still technically occur in New York through the end of the year. But reports indicate Governor Cuomo, with the support of the New York City Police Department, will emphasize these arrests should be their lowest priority.
New York’s model will mirror that of Colorado and will strive to eradicate the black market, and ignite the state’s taxes, according to people close to Cuomo. For the state and city of New York, it’s a landmark day: the Village has already organized a smoke out and march for weed on the 20th, promising “free dabs” and “free love.”
Governor Cuomo was blunt when asked why the sudden change of heart. “Our reasoning for legalization is twofold. First off, legalization is coming on a national scale–and we we have bigger fish to fry. Our policemen should not be spending this amount of time on these mislabelled crimes, and our state needs the tax revenue.”
The other reason was a bit more unexpected. “Phil Jackson,” the Governor said with a slight smirk. The Zen-Master came into my office and told me he wouldn’t coach the Knicks unless he could legally buy weed in New York. He explained to me the benefits of medical cannabis on both his former city of Los Angeles and on his laid-back coaching style. Without legal weed, the deal would have died. I just couldn’t say no to Phil. I did this for the city.”
Some New Yorkers, however, are predictably up-in-arms over the decision. Mayor Bloomberg had this to add. “What’s next, cocaine? Marijuana breeds soda and sugar consumption, and this decision will provide disastrous for our youth and lead an epidemic of diabetes. We will fight this inane decision.”
